A non-conformance record can be easy to open and surprisingly difficult to close well. What requirement was not met? What actually happened? Has the response addressed the cause, or simply tidied away the immediate problem? The new Sentinel NCR courses help people work through those questions with clearer evidence and responsibilities.
Safetyman Academy now offers three separate self-paced NCR courses: beginner, intermediate and advanced. They follow the Sentinel workflow through factual reporting, corrective action, independent verification and effectiveness review. Each level has its own focus, so you can choose learning that fits the decisions you make.
Beginner: make the finding understandable
Start here if you raise records, gather evidence or contribute to the initial response. The beginner course covers access to the module, the requirement and observed facts, immediate containment, and the difference between the named owner and reviewer. The aim is a record another person can understand without relying on a conversation that was never captured.
Intermediate: turn the response into accountable work
The intermediate course develops correction, cause analysis and corrective planning. It examines how linked actions and allocations support delivery, what useful completion evidence looks like and why a finished task does not automatically mean the NCR is ready to close. This level suits people coordinating the response and preparing it for review.
Advanced: test whether the improvement worked
Advanced learning concentrates on independent review, effectiveness and the basis for closure. A reviewer needs more than a reassuring status: the evidence must address agreed criteria after an appropriate observation period. The course helps reviewers distinguish completion of work from evidence that the corrective outcome has been effective.

How NCR strengthens the connected suite
Sentinel NCR can start from an audit finding, observation or obligation within an assessment, retaining the source link. Corrective work can then use shared actions and named allocations. This gives the people delivering and reviewing the work a clearer route back to the reason it was raised.
Those connections preserve useful distinctions. Completing an action does not close the NCR. Independent verification and effectiveness review still have their own purpose. The shared work queue helps users find supported outstanding work in the selected assessment; it should not be read as a complete company-wide picture.
Practise the reasoning, as well as the buttons
Consider a fictional inspection where a required check has no supporting record. Correcting the missing entry may address today’s gap, but it does not establish why the check was missed or whether the same problem will recur. Useful learning asks what evidence would support the finding, who should deliver the response and how an independent person would judge the outcome.
Use the course exercises and fictional examples to practise those decisions. Any software practice should take place in an authorised training assessment, under your own account. Academy learning and Sentinel software access are separate arrangements.
Choose your starting point
Beginner is a sensible starting point for new contributors. Intermediate supports people coordinating corrective work. Advanced is intended for those reviewing evidence and governing closure. Check each course’s objectives and prerequisites before arranging access; a course certificate records learning achievement, while workplace competence and approval authority require their own assessment.
