Home safety is important for everyone, but this is especially true if you’re caring for someone elderly, with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. A throw rug or a stray toy on the steps could easily cause a fall or injury.

Our friend reported his mother slipping on a small toy yesterday, causing her to fall, in a moment of apportioned blame seeking, he told the children this was their fault, after a while of reflection he now feels guilty and apologetic to the children.

We all care about the seniors in our lives but always remember it is the small things that trip us up in life, and his mum he’s not used to having a very small children around the house and the children are not used to having their grandmother in the house either.

Caring is sometimes a difficult task, confused and lonely people, shy and even resentful at having the need for someone to care for them, but the small things in life we do for people make all the difference.

Our friends mother was thankfully fine with no injuries, the father and children understand now about leaving toys around when she visits can be a hazard for her, and the love of a family is priceless.

    The small things in life.
