It’s easy to forget events that changed the world in the current global crisis, but before you complain about employers or the government asking you to social distance, wear a mask or gloves for your own safety, remember this date, 6th July 1988.Nearly 32 years have passed since Piper Alpha erupted into a fireball after a catastrophic failure in the safety management on the platform, led to 167 men to making the ultimate sacrifice for their family, the loss of life was horrendous, we should never forget these men who’s sacrifices that night forced the oil field to change their poor safety culture forever. When we hear people complaining of safety interfering with their work or as now, going out and staying safe by social distancing and wearing a mask, we remind them of the 167 men who died that terrible night. They can never again go home to their families, but you have that chance and that choice! Safety is a choice, your choice!
