Millions of people have been furloughed or lost their job as companies fold or struggle to survive in this current situation, something the world has not experienced in most peoples living memory.

Many people are left feeling a sense of deep loss, mentally struggling to understand why and sometimes shame at losing their job and the fear of accepting a new role, a new job title that is missing that self perceived feeling of importance.

A job title does not define a person, you define that role, like a piece of paper is not a master piece until you write on it!

Steve Jobs was fired from Apple, the company he co-founded, only to come back later to reinvent it. He later wrote that being fired was the best thing that happened to him. History is littered with the list of successful people who have turned a closed door into a whole new path is endless.

The people that are reeling from losing their jobs and finding themselves struggling to move forward have a hard time in this time might feel there is no light at the end of the tunnel for them, possibly fearful of starting again with a new employer, worried about starting a new chapter in their lives.

Everyone struggles with and resist change that we didn’t ask for, we are human after all. But the sooner we embrace the reality of what has occurred, the sooner we can process the emotional upheaval it has caused and get our lives back on track.

Encourage those seeking work to grab that piece of paper and help them write their own masterpiece, that CV masterpiece which shows their incredible skills to the world and get them back into employment again quickly.

This is an experience my own family has gone through like millions of other families, but through persistence and a new formatted CV my brother is again employed, ironically not for the position he applied for, but by a son seeing his CV on his fathers desk after my brother applied to the fathers company for work, but instead was hired by the son for his company.

The present has changed but now we are building the future.
