Contractor management involves more than collecting documents. Someone needs to establish what evidence the work requires, check that it is current and relevant, and explain why a contractor and a particular engagement are ready for the next step. When those decisions are scattered across messages and folders, important gaps can be difficult to see.
The new Sentinel Contractor pathway at Safetyman Academy helps people practise that reasoning in the software. Three separate self-paced courses—Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced—follow the released Suite 1.10.0 workflow, with genuine module screenshots, fictional exercises and worked answers.
Beginner: build clear contractor records
Beginner starts with the four connected records: contractor reviews, evidence checks, work engagements and worker qualifications. You learn to define a useful scope, distinguish an attachment from a verification finding, and prepare information another person can review. The fictional Northbank inspection keeps the practice focused: visual inspection is within scope; repairs and barrier removal are not.
Allow approximately 125 minutes, including practice and assessment.

Intermediate: verify qualifications and approve work
Intermediate develops the decisions that make a review or engagement supportable. It covers submission, an independent reviewer’s challenge, returning incomplete work before correction, exact RAMS revision links and readiness before starting. Multiple compulsory qualifications receive particular attention: each worker-and-requirement combination needs its own evidence, result and dates.
Allow approximately 135 minutes, including practice and assessment.

Advanced: control change and assure the evidence
Advanced examines what happens when the work or evidence changes. It covers suspension, linked review successors, retained decisions, desktop uploads, competing edits and isolated recovery rehearsals. It also explains the 30-minute cloud inactivity session and why local vault locking is a separate safeguard.
Allow approximately 145 minutes, including practice and assessment.

How the learning connects across the suite
Contractor management brings the selection decision and the work engagement into the same assessment context as planned work. RAMS, JSA and SWMS provide the exact work-plan revisions to which an engagement is linked. Shared actions and named allocations give follow-up work a traceable source and a separate route through delivery and verification.
NCR learning complements this by developing the response when a requirement has not been met. These connections do not merge every decision: closing an action does not automatically close an NCR, approve a contractor review or authorise an engagement. Learning the boundaries is as important as learning the buttons.
Practise multiple requirements without overlooking a gap
Imagine that a fictional worker has two compulsory requirements. One has current verified evidence; the second is missing or expired. The first cannot stand in for both. The courses ask you to keep the gap visible, identify the evidence needed and explain why the requested decision is not yet supported. Responsible people must define the requirements first: the software cannot identify an obligation that was never entered.
CSCS and well-control examples demonstrate how separate requirements can be recorded. They are not prescribed as a universal combination, and completing these courses awards neither external qualification.
Study, practise and check your understanding
Each course contains three lessons and a ten-question assessment with explanatory feedback. Seven correct answers meet the 70% pass mark. Lessons require you to mark completion deliberately; use the exercises and worked answers before moving on. Course achievement is recorded separately from workplace competence and operational authority.
You can complete the notebook exercises without a Sentinel subscription. Optional software practice needs an authorised fictional assessment and your own named account. Academy enrolment and software access remain separate arrangements; automatic transfer of course records into Sentinel is not implied.
Choose the right starting point
Start with Beginner if you are new to the module. Move to Intermediate when you understand the records and need to prepare or review engagements. Choose Advanced for responsibilities involving change, transfers and assurance. Teams can use the pathway alongside supervised workplace practice, with local responsibilities agreed separately.
