Sentinel Energy Safety Case — Beginner: Build a Scoped Claim and Evidence Argument

Construct a fictional Energy case with bounded claims, relevant evidence and visible challenges.

Learn at your own pace

Three practical lessons, exercises and worked answers. Allow approximately 60–90 minutes including assessment, divided into short sessions to suit you. No trainer is required.

Before you begin

Complete Energy Safety Case orientation in this course; no previous module experience is required.

Your learning journey

  1. Define the case and the decision it supports — Separate the safety argument from software readiness and operating authority.
  2. Create a controlled draft and claim structure — Record the baseline and build claims that can be challenged.
  3. Evaluate original evidence and retain the challenge — Explain why a source is relevant and what it does not establish.

Practice and assessment

Use a notebook or authorised fictional workspace. The separate final test contains ten single-choice questions worth one point each. Seven correct answers achieve the 70% pass mark. Complete the required lessons and assessment to earn the Sentinel course certificate. The worked exercises are self-check activities; the knowledge test does not certify practical workplace competence.

Access and scope

Enrolment is allocated by the Academy administrator. A software subscription is not needed to complete notebook exercises. Editing Sentinel requires the appropriate account, permissions, licence and workplace authority. This course records learning; it does not establish technical competence, regulatory acceptance or authority to accept operational risk.

This is the self-paced Academy adaptation of the existing facilitated Energy training. Its ten-question, 70% knowledge assessment is separate from the trainer manual’s longer practical assessment. It covers energy case reasoning across defined contexts; UK offshore guidance is an orientation example, not a universal regulatory route.
