Sentinel Bowtie — Intermediate: Build and Verify Effective Barriers

Develop clear barrier standards, examine degradation and turn investigation findings into verified improvements.

Learn at your own pace

Three practical lessons combine clear explanations, fictional case decisions and worked answers. No trainer is required. Allow approximately 60–90 minutes including practice and assessment, split into short sessions to suit you.

Before you begin

Complete Bowtie Beginner or be able to distinguish hazards, top events, threats, consequences and barrier functions.

Your learning journey

  1. Turn barrier names into testable standards — Write a barrier requirement that an owner can deliver and an assessor can check.
  2. Examine degradation and shared dependencies — Identify how barriers can be weakened and avoid counting the same protection twice.
  3. Connect findings, authorised changes and assurance — Carry one finding through the suite without losing its evidence or review status.

Practice and assessment

Use a notebook or an authorised fictional training workspace. Do not upload real witness statements or company evidence to a demonstration. Each lesson includes a task and an expandable worked answer. The final assessment has ten questions worth one point each. Seven correct answers achieve the 70% pass mark. Complete the required learning and assessment to earn the course certificate.

Connected learning
